Just after midnight on Friday, the Panthers made the agreement public.

They started taking calls about the top running back but decided against dealing him because, allegedly, they received an offer they couldn’t refuse.

According to several accounts, the Panthers received a second, third, and fourth round pick in 2023 as well as a fifth round pick in 2024 as compensation.

In the first week of the season, Niners starting running back Elijah Mitchell damaged his MCL, and in Week 2, their mobile quarterback Trey Lance fractured his fibula. With Jeff Wilson Jr. in the backfield, their running game has been excellent, but McCaffrey is a star and immediately improves their offence.

Three players, including McCaffrey, had at least 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. He joined Roger Craig (1999) and Marshall Faulk (2019) in achieving that extraordinary achievement (1985).

He had injuries the previous two seasons, though. In 2020 and 2021, he participated in just 10 games overall.

However, he has participated in each of the six games this season and has run for 393 yards on 85 attempts, scoring twice. Additionally, he has 33 receptions for 277 yards and a touchdown.

It was effectively the start of the fire sale when the Panthers sacked head coach Matt Rhule last week and moved receiver Robbie Anderson earlier this week; however, now it’s a five-alarm fire.

McCaffrey responded that he is more concerned with managing the things that he can when questioned about his current circumstances in Carolina. “Don’t let me see it, please. I have no control over that. I’m attempting to exert control over everything. I’m a Carolina Panther right now, and I’m giving this place everything I’ve got “stated McCaffrey.

He is in the first year of a four-year, $64 million contract, of which $38 million is guaranteed; yet, according to Spotrac, he is only due $1.035 million for this season.

The Panthers were in discussions with the Los Angeles Rams, who recently experienced problems with Cam Akers, according to NFL Network as well.

Additionally, they believe that McCaffrey might play on Sunday when the 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
