13 winners for the 2023 Housing America “What Home Means to Me” poster and calendar contest were revealed on September 24, 2022, at NAHRO’s National Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, California. The competition is a component of the Housing America public awareness campaign, which aims to increase public understanding of the value and necessity of safe, decent, and affordable housing via empowerment, advocacy, and education. The value of owning a home has been reaffirmed as the nation and the world continue to struggle with the effects of the coronavirus, rising inflation, and housing expenses.

The 2023 “What Home Means to Me” calendar, which is distributed to all members of Congress, community leaders, and the NAHRO membership, will include artwork from the national winners. Additionally, each winner gets a $100 Visa gift card. The cover will display the artwork of this year’s grand prize winner, Yareli G., a 12-year-old from the St. Clair County Housing Authority in Illinois. She will also receive a framed version of her poster and an iPad. Additionally, she will be given lodging and transportation to visit Washington, D.C. at a later time with a guardian.
This year, our panel of judges included Senior Policy Analyst at Housing Assistance Council Leslie Strauss, Executive Director of the National American Indian Housing Council Tony Walters, and Executive Director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness Jeff Olivet.
