A Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) guide as well as improved monetary rewards for libraries are included in the Letters About Literature Texas 2022–2023 competition.

Students are invited to respond to authors whose books or poems have influenced their lives as part of the Texas Centre for the Book’s biennial Letters About Literature Texas (LAL) contest. The competition this year is open from November 4 through December 17, 2022, with a 5:00 p.m. deadline. Texas students in grades 4 through 12 may participate in Letters About Literature.
Participants will be eligible for increased cash awards in 2023 because to the generosity of the Nora Roberts Foundation and the Texas Library and Archives Foundation.
Each winner’s school library will receive a $200 stipend in 2023!
As always, there are three categories for contestants:
Level 1 – Grades 4 – 6
Level 2 – Grades 7 – 8
Level 3 – Grades 9 – 12
Winners in all three categories will win their own stipend.
1st place = $300
2nd place = $200
3rd place = $100
The top winners will be recognised and given travel assistance during the Austin Texas Library Association Conference in 2023.
The Letters About Literature (LAL) Texas TEKS Guide, which attempts to assist educators in understanding how TEKS might tie into LAL and current curriculum requirements, is one of the educator resources available on the website.
A permission form is required for all students who will be younger than 13 on November 4, 2022.
