About Rishi Sunak

I grew up witnessing my parents’ devoted service to our local community. My father was a family doctor for the National Health Service, and my mother owned her own neighbourhood pharmacy. I wanted to make the same great impact on people as their Member of Parliament, and I was first elected to represent this wonderful district in 2015, then re-elected in 2017 and again in 2019. I reside in Kirby Sigston, near Northallerton.

I have been blessed with a prosperous business career. I co-founded a huge investment firm that works with companies from Bangalore to Silicon Valley. Then I utilised this experience to aid the expansion of small, entrepreneurial British businesses. From working in my mother’s little apothecary to constructing enormous businesses, I have witnessed firsthand how politicians should promote free enterprise and innovation to safeguard our future prosperity.

My parents made significant sacrifices so that I could attend prestigious schools. I had the good fortune of attending Winchester College, Oxford University, and Stanford University. This encounter altered the course of my life, and as a result, I am committed to ensuring that everyone has access to an excellent education. I’ve served as a school trustee and a board member of a huge youth organisation, and I’ve always contributed my time to education programmes that increase access to opportunity.

I have been fortunate to live, study, and work abroad. I met my wife, Akshata, in California, where we lived for several years before moving back to India. Our two girls, Krishna and Anoushka, keep us occupied and amused.

I was named Chief Secretary of the Treasury in July 2019, having joined the government in January 2018 as Minister for Local Government. I was named Chancellor of the Exchequer in February 2020 and served in that capacity until July 2022. In my spare time, I enjoy staying physically fit, playing cricket, football, and watching movies.
