Visual arts contests
Doodle for Google
Do you remember those amusing cartoons that appear at the top of Google search results? That doodle is the prize-winning submission from a K–12 student once a year, judged in five grade levels. The Google entry form must be used, and entries must be received by March 5 in the United States (other nations have their own competitions). The Google logo must be included in all entries, regardless of the medium. For Googley swag, judges will choose 54 state and territory champions. The 54 candidates are subsequently narrowed down to five national finalists by public vote. A $50,000 technology package for their school as well as a $30,000 scholarship will be awarded to one winner. Free admission is offered, but only one per student. The competition is over for 2022, however updates can be found on the website.
Ned Smith Center Youth Art Contest
An annual international wildlife painting competition is held by the Ned Smith Center in Pennsylvania, with a new theme each year. Students in grades 1 through 12 are eligible to enter. There will be four winners in each of the four age divisions, as well as one Best in Show winner. Beginning in June, entries are due, and winners are announced in July. The entrance fee is $10.

The WorldWide Kids Drawings competition does not have a topic or deadline, however entrants must be between the ages of 6 and 17. Rolling submissions are accepted, and awards are revealed whenever the website is updated. There are $250 to $1,000 in prizes. The entrance fee is $20.
Teen Ink
A nationwide publication called Teen Ink features the artistic endeavours of young people ages 13 to 19. Teens can participate the monthly cover image competition or submit their work for publication in the magazine. There are no entry fees or deadlines. If an artist’s work appears on the cover, they will be given a $25 gift card.
Congressional Art Competition
The American House of Representatives has supported a national visual arts competition since 1982. The district’s delegate receives framed, two-dimensional artwork from high school pupils (deadlines may vary by district). It’s ironic that the topic cannot be political. Although there is no registration fee, participation may result in shipping and framing expenses.
