Events will be held in Queensland, New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Tasmania, and Western Australia in 2023, according to the national hockey calendar.
The first event is the Hockey Australia Indoor Championships, which will feature five age divisions and take place at the Brisbane Sports Entertainment Centre from January 3–25, 2023.
The national Under 21 Championships will be held in March at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre, the location of the hockey competition that took place at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
When Darwin hosts the Under 15 Championships in April, focus shifts to the Top End. The Northern Territory won’t host a national hockey event since 2015.
“This is an excellent opportunity for the Top End to host a nationally webcast event and to experience live top-class hockey on home soil for the first time since 2015,” said Kate Worden, the Northern Territory’s Minister for Sport.
This highly anticipated athletic event is a terrific chance for the hockey community in the NT, which has 11 clubs and 1,300 members.
Tasmania will once again host the national Under 18 Championships, this time in Hobart from 1–9 July, just as it did in 2021.
The Australian Country Championships will be held in August in Goulburn, New South Wales, and will feature the best of the nation’s regional athletes.
“I am happy that the Country Championships will be held in Goulburn, and I can’t wait to welcome teams, officials, and families to Goulburn. Events like this “solid and enhance Goulburn’s standing as a major sporting destination,” according to Peter Walker, mayor of the Goulburn Mulwaree Council.
We can host this tournament and more in the future thanks to the new national level facilities at the Goulburn Regional Hockey Centre, which will significantly boost the local economy.
The Under 13 Carnival in Newcastle will take place in September after that.
The Women’s and Men’s Masters Championships will be held in the Perth Mega Masters tournament, which will conclude the series and run from September 21 through October 7.
“We are excited to be able to share the locations and dates of our national events for 2023,” said Jennifer North, Chief Commercial Officer of Hockey Australia.
“The tremendous interest we receive from state and territory governments to host Hockey Australia events is proof of the attraction and enticement owing to the wide demography and popularity of our array of national championships.”
“We appreciate this level of commitment to hockey and look forward to touring Australia with our events, from Darwin to Hobart and Brisbane to Perth,” said the organisation.
