Sarah Jones Vampire Diaries Crew
Sarah Elizabeth Jones was a camera assistant for The Vampire Diaries, until her tragic death on, February 20, 2014. She was Richard and Elizabeth Jones’s child. She was Rebecca Jones’ and Eric Jones’ sister. While working as an intern on the set of the hit television programme “Army Wives,” Sarah launched her cinematic career. Sarah kept moving up the ladder in the movie business and immediately discovered a passion for cinematography. She was a devoted and well-respected International Cinematographers Guild member (IATSE Local 600). Working on a movie on Gregg Allman, a Southern rock musician, was Sarah. She was murdered by a freight train when they were filming a scene on a railroad trestle over the Altamaha River in Doctortown, Georgia. Sarah passed away at the age of 27.
She was a kombucha fan. She loved taking pictures and was a daring adventurer.
A group photo with slates was taken in Sarah’s honour by almost all of the cast and crew. At www.SlatesforSarah.org, film workers from all over the world started donating slates with tributes to Sarah, and it quickly developed into a movement to increase set safety.
Sarah received honours throughout the 2014 Academy Awards In Memorium section, as well as through concerts, walk-a-thons, a safety smartphone app, a film scholarship fund, and other events. Her devoted friends, family, and numerous supporters continue to carry on her amazing spirit.
Jones, a Vampire Diaries crew member, passed away on February 20 in Georgia while working on the Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider in an incident involving a train on the site. Her 28th birthday would have fallen on Monday, September 22.
The 5K walk-a-thon is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 5 in Atlanta as a tribute to her, with all revenues going to the recently established Sarah Jones Film Foundation. The charity was established by Sarah’s parents, Richard and Elizabeth Jones of Columbia, South Carolina, with funds going toward on-set safety awareness campaigns, educational scholarships, and social media outreach via Slates for Sarah.
On October 5, “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” cast members will participate in a 5K walkathon in Atlanta in memory of Sarah Jones, a camera assistant who passed away in February while working on the “Midnight Rider” set.
Jones had previously worked on “The Vampire Diaries” as crew. While filming “Midnight Rider” scenes in Georgia, she was killed after being struck by a train.
The walkers will be led by Jones’ parents, Richard and Elizabeth Jones, as well as her brother, Eric. The producers and distributors of the movie are currently the targets of a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the Jones family.
Following Jones’ passing, members of the industry have organised various vigils to spread awareness of crew member safety precautions on-set. The 5K walkers intend to live-Tweet the event and raise money through online donation links in order to keep bringing attention to the need for such protections.
The Sarah Jones Film Foundation, which was established by Jones’ parents following her passing, will receive 100% of the walk’s revenues. The proceeds will go to the foundation’s planned safety awareness campaigns, educational scholarships, and stepped-up social media outreach.
