The “Rainbow in the Dark” singer began writing his autobiography before learning he had cancer, and Wendy Dio and music journalist Mick Wall collaborated on the book. In the book, he discusses his early life and eventual rise to prominence as a singer for Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven and Hell, among other bands.
He describes how the “Devil Horns” (also known as maloik), which his grandmother had taught him would shield him from the “evil eye,” came to serve as both his distinctive calling card and a persistent representation of heavy metal for followers all across the world.
Ronnie speaks frankly about the numerous excesses of the rock ’n’ roll life, how his great songwriting talents were developed out of necessity and the number of times he was forced to reassess his career path, always resolutely adhering to the goal that carried him ahead. He also talks about his affection for his devoted fans throughout the book, for whom he spent countless hours posing for pictures and signing signatures so that nobody would be disappointed.
Photos from Ronnie’s personal archives and during his life are used as illustrations throughout the book. Wendy Dio contributed her own facts and views of particular events in Ronnie’s life to fill in some of the book’s missing portions even though Dio was unable to finish it before his passing.
“Rainbow in the Dark: The Autobiography” is available to order on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and anywhere books are sold.
