About GCKey
You can communicate securely with online-enabled Government programmes and services using a GCKey, a special electronic credential.
These particular credentials are given out to people by the Canadian government, which is the service provider, for usage with enabled services. An online government service known as a “Enabled Service” makes use of the security features your GCKey offers.
You have the option of using a single GCKey to access numerous Enabled Services or using a different GCKey for each Enabled Service. You will need to keep track of which GCKey was used to sign up for each specific service, though. The GCKey service cannot help you if you forget because it is unaware of the services you use or the number of GCKeys you have.
You have the option to apply for these services in person, via phone, fax, mail, or another method if you prefer not to do so electronically.
For more information about your GCKey, refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
What is the GCKey?
You can communicate securely with online government services using a GCKey, a special electronic credential that consists of a login and password. Individuals are given these credentials by the Canadian government, which serves as the service provider, so they can access online government services.
Why did the Canadian government launch GCKey?
GCKey is a service provided by the Government of Canada that generates login information (username and password) for use with online federal government services. Clients that lack or opt not to use a credential they may have with one of the Sign-In Partners can still use the GCKey service.
How do I get a GCKey?
Visit the Government of Canada website you wish to visit, and when given the option to log in, choose “Continue to GCKey” to register or sign up for a GCKey.
Can I access many services with the same GCKey?
Yes. All accessible online services, with the exception of the CRA services, can be accessed using the same GCKey credential. It is convenient to use a single credential to access many services because you don’t need to remember numerous usernames and passwords.
You must either utilise one of the Sign-In Partners or sign up for a CRA User ID and password in order to access the CRA’s login services.
Do I have access to every online service offered by the government with my GCKey?
All online services provided by the government are accessible to you using your GCKey, with the exception of those provided by the Canada Revenue Agency. You must sign in with one of the Sign-In Partners or create a CRA User ID and password in order to access the CRA’s services.
The information I provide when I sign up for a GCKey is accessible to whom?
Your registration details are kept confidential by the GCKey service. The Federal Privacy Act protects the data you supply, which is kept by the Government of Canada.
