In 2023, Sydney will host WorldPride, one of the most important international occasions to take place in New South Wales since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Sydney Mardi Gras and Worldpride will unite for a massive 17-day festival around the city. The Mardi Gras Parade, Fair Day, and afterparties, all staples of the festival, will also take place. Sydney is already above capacity in the month of March due to the end of the Summer season and Mardi Gras.

The LGBTQIA+ community in Australia will have an amazing year in 2023 when Sydney proudly hosts the World Pride Festival.

Director of Copenhagen 2021, Lars Henriksen, officially transferred the host title to CEO of Sydney 2023, Kate Wickett, during the Denmark Pride closing ceremony.

The theme GATHER DREAM AMPLIFY “was developed with our exceptional LGBTIQ+ community and shows our commitment to global equality and inclusion” when it comes to Sydney hosting World Pride in 2023. The Sydney WorldPride Creative Director, Daniel Clarke, describes it as a call to action.

The opening and closing ceremonies, which will currently be held in The Domain with 25,000+ guests, the First Nations Gala Concert, a renowned human rights conference, and the festival’s closing party at Bondi Beach with 10,000+ party goers are among Sydney WorldPride’s major events. Both regional and international headliners will perform at every event.

The largest pride march ever staged in Australia will also cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge with more than 50,000 participants.

Sydney WorldPride will take place from February 17 through March 5, 2023, which is the typical Mardi Gras season in Sydney. The Sydney WorldPride schedule will include Mardi Gras Festival activities like Fair Day, Parade, Party, Laneway, and more.

An international Pride festival called WorldPride takes place every few years in a different city. InterPride, which contains representatives from almost all Pride organisations worldwide, grants the authority to host it. Previous WorldPride events have been held in New York in 2019 to commemorate 50 years after the Stonewall uprising and in Copenhagen in 2021 to coincide with the EuroGames. We are incredibly honoured that Sydney will host WorldPride in 2023 thanks to the votes of InterPride members.

The official Sydney WorldPride Opening Ceremony will take place on February 24, and there will be a First Nations Gathering Space, a game-changing Human Rights Conference, an unforgettable Pride March across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a closing ceremony, and a sensational party on Bondi Beach in Sydney (among many other events that have yet to be announced).

We are creating a comprehensive arts and cultural programme for Greater Sydney that reflects the diversity of our LGBTIQ+ communities. With a heavy emphasis on First Nations peoples and the Asia-Pacific, it will include theatre, visual arts, music, and cabaret.

We’ve seized the chance to introduce WorldPride to the southern hemisphere for the first time, representing not only Australian states and territories but also drawing attention to our Asia-Pacific neighbours who do not all share our commitment to equality and human rights.

The Sydney WorldPride will contribute to bringing these injustices to light. Our human rights conference will serve as a forum for debate, the sharing of ideas, and thought leadership. We want to provide marginalised communities with unprecedented global solidarity and support.

Furthermore, we are devoted to making sure that everyone can attend our festival. Transportation, communications, amenities, and other services will be improved for attendees’ convenience and overall satisfaction. All conceivable digital channels will be investigated in order to maximise accessibility from anywhere in the world so that distant audiences can participate in Sydney WorldPride online.
