Tremors In Delhi, Parts Of North India As 6.3 Earthquake Hits Afghanistan

Tremors were felt in several parts of North India, including the national capital New Delhi and its adjoining areas after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in the Hindukush region in Afghanistan this evening.
The earthquake, that originated in Afghanistan, struck at 5:09 pm.The tremors were felt for nearly a minute in Delhi.

A strong earthquake was felt across North India, Pakistan and Afghanistan on Friday around 5.09 pm. The epicentre is said to be the Hindu-Kush region in Afghanistan. As per the National Institute of Seismology, the magnitude of the earthquake is said to be 6.3 on the Richter scale. However, the US geological survey reported a slightly lower reading of 6.1.

The depth of the earthquake was 190 kilometre below the surface, around 245 kilometres northeast to Kabul. The jolts, felt in Delhi-NCR, were strong and lasted for at least 10 seconds.

The tremors were reported in Mathura, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Jammu and Kashmir and several other parts of North India. The reports of panic and evacuations are also pouring in from Lahore in Pakistan.

So far, there have been no reports of loss of property and life in the regions hit by the earthquake.

Reports of tremors being felt are coming from Chandigarh, Faridkot, Dalhousie, Chamba, Dehradun, Srinagar, Jammu, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, along with Pakistan’s Islamabad and Lahore
