The Story Of The Jimmy John’s Sandwich Empire
Sandwiches are not made at Jimmy John’s. The Sandwich of Sandwiches is created here. We don’t dislike salads; we just feel sorry for them, so we use fresh vegetables. Because boxed pre-sliced meats don’t have the same ring to them, we hand-slice our provolone cheese and meats every day. And because stale bread isn’t actually bread; it’s croutons, we bake bread all day, every day. A Jimmy John’s sandwich is made with hand-sliced meats, fresh vegetables, and freshly baked bread. The Ultimate Sandwich.

One of the nation’s favourite rest stations on the side of the road for more than 70 years is Jimmy John’s. Customers enjoy an experience unlike any other thanks to our welcoming environment and excellent service. We take great satisfaction in providing excellent meals quickly and consistently with excellent service. The Food Network’s Best Of: Roadside Stands has highlighted us. In addition, both critics and fans of hot dogs have given us glowing reviews.
Our restaurant offers a variety of self-serve toppings for our “Special Frankfurter,” which has a natural casing. For many years, these dogs have been the cornerstone of Jimmy John’s and have satisfied palates throughout Delaware and Chester counties. A must-have dog for any fan of hot dogs! If the restaurant’s selection of condiments isn’t enough to sate your appetite, we also have fresh bacon, cheese, and chilli available for addition.
A Brief History Jimmy John’s
After launching six other food-related businesses, Jimmy John opened the outdoor Pipin’ Hot on the brand-new Wilmington Pike in the first few days of May 1940. To prepare for winter, the first expansion was completed that fall. Three further extensions were made in the summer of 1941. Through WWII, it remained that way and was run by his wife, Louise John. In 1945, shortly after we returned from the war, we bought the land from our next-door neighbours, Elizabeth and William Heyburn. A new structure was built in 1948, and the company grew as a result! However, it was destroyed 12 years later to make room for a four lane roadway. In 1960, a brand-new structure measuring 100 feet was built close to the original location. In the spring of 1973, a new addition was added inside seating.
As of December 2005, Roger Steward, the company’s longest-serving employee who started working there in 1974, currently owns and runs Jimmy John’s. He views it as a privilege to carry on Jimmy John’s legacy after all these years. We sincerely appreciate each and every one of you for continuing to make Jimmy John’s a beloved destination for you and your family to experience the rich heritage of this neighbourhood icon.
When A Billionaire Needs A Boss- A Summary About Jimmy John’s
Jimmy John’s founder Jimmy John Liautaud is the chief taster on Wednesday at the company’s headquarters. He enters the test kitchen with a bravado, sporting an untucked shirt and jeans, ready to taste-test the ten different sandwich varieties, six different deli meat varieties, potato chips, and cookies. The bread is first. Liautaud inhales while pressing his nose into a wheat baguette. The smell test shows it’s okay. He takes a bite and spits the bread into the garbage after chewing it into a paste. He says, “I don’t want all these calories.” I put in a lot of effort, yet here I am at 300 pounds. After passing the taste test for the baguette as well, Liautaud considers a new white chocolate chip for his cookies. The decision? That chip is terrible. He also spits it out.
The first Jimmy John’s sandwich shop Liautaud, 54, started was 35 years ago. Jimmy John’s has surpassed Jimmy John Liautaud, and the business now generates over $2 billion in annual sales from 2,802 locations. He now reports to Roark Capital, an Atlanta-based private equity company that acquired the majority of the company in 2016 in a deal that valued the chain at about $3 billion. Thanks to that transaction and other assets, including farmland in Illinois and a stake in the maker of e-cigarettes Juul, Liautaud is now worth $1.7 billion and holds an estimated 35% of the company.
Previously in control of all decisions, Liautaud is now in charge of culture and cuisine. Although he still holds the position of chairman, he acknowledges that “[Roark] can choose to listen to me or choose not to listen to me. They are free to act as they like. He ceded control to a company that appears to be in many ways his opposite by selling to Roark, which also holds majority holdings in Arby’s and Buffalo Wild Wings, among other restaurant brands. Liautaud, who had to sign a nondisclosure agreement as part of the transaction but is accustomed to speaking his thoughts, adds “I wear my heart on my shirtsleeve.” He frequently uses profanity, and he enjoys giving himself silly names like Sandwich Savant.
