Commonwealth Bank services are “recovering” after the bank reported problems accessing customers’ online banking.

Users were unable to transfer funds within the app and were frequently unable to use their cards at checkouts.

“We can confirm we have identified the cause of the issue and services are being restored,” CommBank wrote in an update posted at 4 p.m. on its website.

Customers who were impacted by the outage were apologized to by the bank.

“We understand how much our customers rely on us, and we sincerely apologize to those who have been affected today,” the bank added.
“Please be aware that some payments may be delayed as we continue to restore services.”

Customers were unable to log into their online banking services at daybreak, and by midday, the bank announced “multiple services” had been impacted.

Some users reported seeing account balances of $0 on social media, while others were unable to use EFTPOS services.
According to CommBank, the service disruption resulted in a significant number of demand at call centers and branches as clients were unable to access their accounts.The Commonwealth Bank app is used by almost 7 million individuals.

Other customers stated that the problem had also impacted ATMs.

“Comm Bank, [it would be] helpful if you informed customers as to why we are unable to access Netbank?” People are also alleging that their ATMs show zero money even when they have funds.” One consumer tweeted.

“Netbank is unavailable. Absolute anarchy is taking place. The first day of school vacation, and CommBank has gone bankrupt. There will be no internet transfers, ATMs, or EFT. “Don’t bother calling, the lines are congested,” wrote another.

Customers were apprehensive even after the bank’s 4 p.m. update.

“I understand it must have been a stressful day,” one responded, “but we will need a lot more explanations about what went wrong.”
