When Is (OEP) Open Enrollment Period for 2023?

Open Enrollment Period

In most states, the 2023 Open Enrollment Period (OEP) runs from November 1, 2022, through January 15, 2023.

The states that utilise the federal ACA exchange are listed in the chart below as having OEP dates in 2023. Streaming starts on January 1. The first day of the month following your enrollment, if you have a Special Enrollment Period, is when your coverage will start. For instance, your coverage will start on March 1 if you enrol on February 15.

Regardless of their wealth, health, or pre-existing illnesses, every American deserves affordable coverage and access to high-quality care. The federal or state-based health insurance markets, also known as the Exchanges, are where customers who do not have access to coverage via their employment or through a government programme like Medicare can shop and enrol.

Open enrollment for 2023 begins on November 1 for people and families who choose to purchase insurance on their own. For coverage that begins January 1, 2023, consumers must enrol by December 15, 2022, or by January 15, 2023, for coverage that begins February 1, 2023.

The health insurance marketplaces established by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are currently in their tenth year of open enrollment. More than 14.5 million Americans now have access to comprehensive and affordable coverage thanks to the marketplaces’ ongoing stabilisation and expansion.

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) boosted subsidies that were extended through 2025 by the Inflation Reduction Act, which was passed by Congress in August. Therefore, throughout this open enrollment season, marketplace consumers will continue to see more inexpensive health insurance options, including more $0 premium and low-cost plans.

Health insurance companies are increasing their product offerings in the individual market for 2023 in addition to lowering prices. Customers will typically have access to 6-7 different health insurance companies. The average premium for the second-lowest cost silver plan will rise by 4% starting in 2022, however, as a result of medical inflation. Due to the continued enhanced subsidies provided by the Inflation Reduction Act, premiums will still be cheap despite this hike. After applying advanced premium tax credits (APTC), the average lowest-cost premium actually falls from $3 in plan year 2022 to $1 in plan year 2023.

A communication from their current health plan including details for the 2023 open enrollment period will be sent to enrollees by November 1. Due to the possibility that they do not contain information on anticipated 2023 rates and advanced premium tax credits, these notices may differ from those from previous years (APTC). Customers are therefore advised to use their Healthcare.gov applications as soon as possible to get the most precise and recent information.

With a few modifications, shopping for a plan through Healthcare.gov or a state marketplace will resemble prior years.

Through the individual marketplaces, health insurance and financial aid will be available in every county in the country. This year, Healthcare.gov will also provide consumers with new “easy-pricing” plan alternatives. For some features, these plans offer the same deductibles and cost-sharing. Customers might also notice new adjustments to the purchasing process, including enhanced provider and drug search capabilities and more openness regarding health and pharmacy cost deductibles. When selecting a plan, there are many crucial elements to take into account, including cost-sharing, premiums, deductibles, provider networks, and out-of-pocket expenses.
