The Special Olympics World Games present a unique opportunity to bring people from all around the world together. 7,000 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners from over 170 nations will compete in 24 sports in Berlin, Germany, from June 17–June 25, 2023. More than 3,000 coaches and 20,000 volunteers will help the athletes.
The Event Centre at the Messe Berlin (Convention Centre), the Max-Schmeling-Halle sporting facilities, the Sportforum and the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark, as well as the Brandenburg Gate, will all offer the athletes cutting-edge competition sites. The Berlin Olympic Stadium will host the 2023 World Games’ Opening Ceremony.

Since Special Olympics athletes will be involved in all aspects of the events, from planning to execution, the 2023 World Games will serve as a showcase for inclusion on a global scale. More than 4,500 athletes contributed their ideas to the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 concept during the development of the bid to host the World Games.
A National Athletes Council has also been established, composed of athlete leaders from each of Special Olympics Germany’s 14 sub-programs. All important sections pertaining to the World Games will be made with input from the Athletes Council, who will also have an impact on the format of the Games. To guarantee that the Games are really athlete-led and athlete-focused, they have been assigned to each functional area. These World Games will demonstrate the incredible results that can be achieved when we choose to include and will establish new benchmarks for inclusive leadership.
In Berlin, athletes will compete in the following 24 sports:
- Gymnastics (artistic)
- Gymnastics (rhythmic)
- Open Water Swimming
- Roller Skating
- Table Tennis
- Beach Volleyball
